Man held with 15kg gold at Dhaka airport

Customs officials detained a man with 130 gold bars weighing 15 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night.

Lutfar Rahman, 53, hailing from Mymensingh, was carrying the gold bars attached to his body.

A team of customs (preventive) apprehended him at the boarding bridge area after he landed at the airport via a flight of Emirates from Dubai around 11:00pm, Mohammad Marufur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Customs, told The Daily Star.

He is a frequent traveller and went to Dubai a month ago.

The value of the gold is around Tk 10.5 crore. Legal steps against him are underway, Marufur said.
