A man was arrested on Thursday for selling his two minor daughters in Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria following a case filed by his wife the day before.

Monir Hosain, 30, of Kandapara in Ashuganj took his daughters on January 14 in the name of visiting of one of his relatives, said police. The man had been missing since the incident, they said.

During primary interrogation, Monir Hosain confessed to selling his daughters to one Ratan Devnath of the upazila's Nathpara village at Tk 3 lakh, said Md Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station.

Monir's wife Ratna Begum told The Daily Star that she suspected her husband, who managed day labourers for contractors to make a living, as he often spoke to Ratan over cellphone on money related issue.

And Monir needed the money to go abroad, she said.

The two girls are yet to be found as Ratan has been on the run since the incident, said the OC.
