'Kishoreganj Razakar' sent to jail

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 yesterday sent to jail a man suspected to have been involved in war crimes in Kishoreganj.

The suspect, Moslem Prodhan, 66, was arrested at his house in Kamarhati village in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj on Tuesday, hours after the tribunal issued arrest warrants against him and another "Kishoreganj Razakar" following a prosecution petition.

The other suspect is Mohammad Hossain, 64, alleged commander of Nikli upazila Razakar Bahini and younger brother of convicted war criminal Syed Hasan Ali, who was tried in absentia.

The three-member tribunal also directed the prosecution to submit a progress report on the investigation into the war crimes allegations against the suspects on August 10.

Meanwhile, the tribunal granted a petition of the prosecution filed to allow an investigation officer of a war crimes case to interrogate six accused at a "safe home".

 The six accused are: Salamat Ullah Khan, Rashid Mia, Nurul Islam, Osman Gani, Zinnat Ali and Badsha Miah. They were allegedly involved in crimes committed in Maheshkhal upazila in Cox's Bazar during the Liberation War. They were arrested in March and May this year.

As per the order, Salamat Ullah will be interrogated on July 26, Rashid Miah on July 27, Nulul Islam and Badsha Miah on July 28, and Osman Gani and Zinnat on July 29, said Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta.

The six are among 19 war crimes accused in the case. One accused died in jail, while the remaining 12 are on the run, according to the prosecution.
