JMB leader confesses to killing Khijir Khan
Arrested Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader Tariqul Islam Tareque yesterday confessed to have killed former Power Development Board chairman Khijir Khan for religious and ideological differences.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfor Rahman Shishir recorded the statement and ordered sending him to jail.
Tareque said he, with the help of his accomplices, killed Khijir, also a Pir (spiritual leader), as they believed his activities went against Islamic norms and that killing Pirs were their religious obligation.
On October 14, Tareque and his accomplice Alek Bapary were arrested. Alek allegedly drove eight JMB operatives to Khijir's Modhya Badda residence on October 5, the day of the murder.
