International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday sent to jail a war crimes accused from Jamalpur produced by police.

AKM Yusuf hails from Harinakundu upazila's Chandpur and is a forest official working in Bagerhat.

He was arrested from Dublar Char in Bagerhat on Wednesday evening hours after the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against him and seven others over their alleged involvement in crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

That day, Jamalpur police arrested Yusuf's brother Yunus Ali and Omar Faruk from their village while Mymensingh police arrested another accused Rezaul Haque alias Akkas Moulvi.

The next day, Yunus, Faruk and Rezaul were produced before the tribunal which sent them to jail. Bringing Yusuf to Dhaka took time due to the "long distance" as per a prosecutor.

The prosecution says the eight were "involved" with Razakar Bahini and Al-Badr Bahini, two auxiliary forces of the Pakistani occupation army.

The case's investigating officer said to have already found their "involvement" in crimes including genocide and murders committed in Muktagachha and Harinakundu upazilas.

Meanwhile, the tribunal granted a prosecution petition allowing the investigation agency to interrogate a war crimes accused of Moulvibazar at its safe home.

Accused Akmal Ali Talukdar, from Rajnagar upazila's Ranchgaon village, will be interrogated on December 20, said prosecutor Sheikh Mosfeq Kabir.

Akmal was arrested on November 26 following an arrest warrant issued by the tribunal against him and three others.
