ICT wants probe report on Satkhira war crime suspect May 8

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday directed the prosecution to submit its probe report, if there is any, on May 8 against Abdul Khaleq Mandol of Satkhira, who was allegedly involved in crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

The tribunal fixed the date following a time petition of the prosecution.

Prosecutor Zead Al Malum yesterday submitted a progress report on the investigation and sought three months more time.

Khaleq, an alleged Razakar of Satkhira and the incumbent Ameer of Satkhira Jamaat-e-Islami, was shown arrested in the war crimes case on August 25 last year following the prosecution's petition. 

Investigation against Khaleq started on June 16 the same year that had "found evidence" of his involvement in crimes, including murder and rape, committed during the war, according to the prosecution.

According to the investigation agency, Khaleq was involved in Islami Chhatra Sangha, erstwhile student wing of Jamaat, before the war and he joined Razakar Bahini, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani army, in 1971.
