HWY blocked protesting postponement

Hundreds of jobseekers blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in front of Rajshahi University's (RU) main gate for around three hours till 6:00pm yesterday after the second phase of a recruitment test of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank was abruptly postponed.

The one-hour test was postponed indefinitely for unavoidable reasons an hour before its scheduled start at 3:30pm, said Zinat Ara Begum, chairman of RU management studies department, which was holding the test on the bank's behalf.

She said 50 percent of the 24,000 applicants for the 108 officer (grade-2) posts took the test in the first phase beginning 10:30am.

The agitation moved to the road after the department closed its doors to jobseekers voicing their protest at the sudden announcement.
