Hearing on indictment of AL MP's son Rony deferred
A Dhaka court yesterday could not decide whether to frame charges against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, the son of an Awami League lawmaker, over the killing of two people in the capital as he was not produced before it due to security reasons.
The court fixed January 4 for the next hearing.
Rony is the son of Pinu Khan MP, also acting general secretary of Mohila Awami League.
Zahidul Islam Sardar, additional public prosecutor, told The Daily Star that the jail authority could not produce him due to "lack of adequate security".
Detectives on July 21 pressed murder charges against Rony for shooting dead a rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver on New Eskaton Road on April 15. Rony fired four to five random shots from his jeep for "being frustrated over post-midnight traffic".
