Hearing on charge framing against Rony on February 2

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed February 2 for hearing on charge framing against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, in connection with the Eskaton double murder case.

Meantime, defence lawyers submitted a petition for discharging Pinu -- acting Mohila AL general secretary -- and Judge Shamsunnahar Begum of the Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court fixed the same date for hearing it.

On August 13 last year, another Dhaka court took cognizance of the double murder charge against Rony. It also relieved Imran Fakir, Rony's driver, of the charges as the investigation officer did not find any allegation against him.

Detectives on July 21 pressed murder charges against Rony for shooting dead two persons -- a rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver -- in the capital's New Eskaton on April 15.

Rony fired random shots in the air from his jeep for "being frustrated over post-midnight traffic."
