HC upholds death for 1, life term for 4

The High Court yesterday upheld a lower court verdict that had sentenced a man to death and four others to life term imprisonment for killing Anamika Ghosh, a nine-year-old girl, after abduction for ransom at Keraniganj in Dhaka in 2009.

Anamika was kidnapped for a ransom of Tk 10 lakh while returning home from school on February 26, 2009.

Though the victim's father paid them Tk 2.10 lakh, the kidnappers killed her and dumped the body in a paddy field in Manikganj's Shivalaya upazila.
