HC questions land grabbing charge against Moudud

The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of a lower court order that accepted charges against former BNP minister Moudud Ahmed in a land case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on December 17, 2013 against Moudud and his brother Monjur Ahmed on charges of grabbing government land worth over Tk 300 crore in the capital's Gulshan.

On September 14 last year, a Dhaka court accepted the charges against the two.

After hearing a revision petition, which was filed by Moudud last November, the HC yesterday issued a rule upon the ACC and the government to explain in two weeks why the lower court order should not be declared illegal and fixed May 21 for next hearing. 

Defending himself, Moudud yesterday told the HC that the case filed against him was "fabricated" and was filed for harassing him politically.

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan opposed the petition.
