HC clears way for ACC to resume probe

The High Court yesterday cleared the way for Anti Corruption Commission to resume investigation into a nine-year-old corruption case against former state minister for liberation war affairs Redwan Ahmed of BNP.

On December 19, 2007, commission filed the case against Redwan, now a presidium member of National Democratic Party, with Ramna Police Station on charges of illegally amassing wealth worth over Tk 2.30 crore, and for concealing information about his wealth worth Tk 1.36 crore to it.

The HC rejected a writ petition filed by Redwan challenging the legality of filing and initiation of the case, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.

He said following the petition, the HC stayed the case proceedings in March 2008 while the ACC was investigating it.

At that time, the HC also issued a rule upon the ACC to explain why the filing and initiation of the case against Redwan should not be declared illegal.
