Habitual VoIP tax dodgers held in capital

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-2) claimed to have arrested three members of a syndicate on Sunday, which dodged Tk two crore in taxes each year for the last 10 years, operating illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business.

The arrestees were Foyzullah Riad, Moklesur Rahman and Saiful Islam, from the capital's Vatara area, said Maruf Ahmad, squad commander, Rab-2.

The arrestees were running the business from a distance through a modern remote access system using "Team Viewer" software, says a Rab-2 press release.

Didarul Alam, an expatriate in Kuwait, is the prime financer of the syndicate, the Rab official added.

Around Tk 30 lakh worth VoIP equipments including 1879 mobile sims, 10 mobile phones, four VoIP sets, 34 VoIP antennas, four laptops, one UPS, four internet switches and 12 wireless routers were seized.
