Govt to remove unplanned installations
Those who have interfered with the master plan of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban Complex and built different structures including graves in and around it must be brought to justice, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharrof Hossain told parliament last night.
He said there was no space marked anywhere in the master plan for building graves.
"But governments have given instructions over the years to build graves and different other structures," he added saying that the government would restore the master plan after getting it from the Architectural Archive of Pennsylvania University, USA.
Architect Louis I Kahn's plan for the complex has so far been grossly interfered with through the building of the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, the Planning Commission, and some other structures, the minister said.
The JS building sits on a 200-acre land and is part of an 800-acre citadel of 1,600-acre capitol complex, said leading architects.
BNP has already opposed the government's move to remove Zia's grave after the cabinet decided to remove all graves from the parliament complex area.
