Girl raped, rapist held in Bogra

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a day labourer on Wednesday while another minor girl was attempted to be raped allegedly by a shop owner on Thursday in Bogra.

In Dupchanchia, police early yesterday arrested a day labourer on charge of raping a nine-year-old girl from Talora area.

The victim was the daughter of a rickshaw-puller Rubel Mia. Aleya Khatun, victim's mother lodged a case on Thursday.

Arrestee Shajahan Ali Fakir, 52, son of late Erfan Ali of Chandpur village under Kahaloo upazila, used to work near the area where the victim's family resided. The victim went out from her house to play when the accused captured her, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia police.

Shajahan was sent to a court following his arrest and the court sent him to jail, added the OC.

She was rushed to Dupchanchia Upazila Health Complex initially and later to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra, as her condition deteriorated, said family members.

Meanwhile, in Sherpur, a case was lodged yesterday afternoon against a man for attempting to rape a minor school girl on Wednesday afternoon in Banikpara area, said Khan Md Erfan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur police.

The nine-year-old victim was the daughter of Khokon Mia, a local paddy trader, and a student of class-III of Sherpur Town Colony Government Primary School.

The accused, Nannu Mia, 28, son of Mohor Ali of Banikpara, also a bird trader, took her to his shop Thursday afternoon and tried to rape her. As she started crying, he released her and gave her some money. She informed her mother about the incident after reaching home, who filed the case.

She was taken to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Nannu has been absconding following the incident, added the OC.
