GCC contractor held over clash

A Gazipur City Corporation's listed contractor was arrested by police hours after a clash on Wednesday noon in the GCC building that left at least 10 people, including three councillors, with minor injuries and caused damages officials estimate to be reaching around Tk 1 lakh.

Shahjahan Mia Saju, also the Awami Swechhasebak League Gazipur unit joint convener, has been accused in a case GCC Assistant Secretary Mohammed Nazmul Haque filed with Joydevpur Police Station.

Other accused include another contractor Kamruzzaman Repon, also Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Gazipur unit general secretary, his brother Mohammed Ali Hossain and eight to 10 unnamed men.

Witnesses said Shahjahan and Kamruzzaman had an altercation leading to the clash bweteen persons accompanying them when windowpanes and flowerpots were smashed and railings damaged.
