Gazipur man to die for killing wife

A Gazipur court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2011.

Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque also fined the convict, Mohammad Shamim, 28, son of Abdul Majid of Sreepur, Tk 10,000.

According to the verdict, Shamim used to torture and abuse his wife Champa Akter, 20, daughter of Dulal Mia of Sreepur. On January 5, 2011 he strangled Champa with a towel after she threatened to leave him.

Champa's father filed a murder case in this connection and police filed charges on March 24 of 2011.

Mohammad Shahab Uddin was the lawyer for the accused, while Md Haris Uddin Ahmed was the public prosecutor.
