BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is leaving for Singapore for better treatment.

In a Singapore Airlines flight, he was scheduled to depart from the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:54pm yesterday, said BNP chairperson's media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

Fakhrul will receive treatment at the National University Hospital for different health problems including heart disease and nerve block in the neck.

The BNP senior leader got released from jail on July 14, six months after his arrest on January 6. Fakhrul had not attended any BNP programme since his release.

About the speculation that his Singapore visit is the outcome of his "understanding" developed with the government that he would not get involved with BNP again, Fakhrul said, "I'm very sick. I've lost over 12kg in the last six months. I will visit Singapore only for treatment purpose."

Meanwhile, condition of BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam deteriorated at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital where he has been undergoing treatment since July 11.
