Star Online Report

A court in Chattogram today ordered to show former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das -- an accused in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan killing case -- arrested in a graft case.

The court of Metropolitan Session Judge Ashfaqur Rahman passed the order after Pradeep was produced before the court in the case filed against him and his wife by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing about Tk 3.95 crore illegally.

ACC's Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Mahmudul Haque told The Daily Star, "Accepting the ACC's plea, the court ordered to show him arrested in the graft case after a hearing. During the hearing, Pradeep's lawyer also pleaded for his bail and division in jail but the court fixed September 20 for hearing over the points."

Earlier in the morning, police cordoned off the court building area and beefed up security following the hearing. At around 1:00pm, Pradeep was produced before the court and after the court order, he was taken to Chattogram Jail amid tight security.

ACC's Assistant Director Riaz Uddin filed a case on August 23 against Pradeep and his wife Chumki with the ACC's Chattogram office-1 over amassing about Tk 3.95 crore of wealth beyond known source of income.
