Eviction from English Road protested

Hundreds of drivers and workers of truck, mini-truck, covered-van and tank-lorry yesterday formed a human chain protesting the eviction of mini-trucks and pickup-vans from the English Road in Old Dhaka.

Truck, Mini Truck, Tank, Lorry, Covered-van Owners and Workers Unity Council of Dhaka organised the programme in front of Jatiya Press Club demanding a city truck terminal. Osman Ali, general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation, said without arranging an alternative, the city corporation can not evict the vehicles from the road. He also announced a rally at Dholaikhal Truck Terminal in the capital for August 7 if the authority does not withdraw its decision.
