Enam Hospital kept cured in for bills
The authorities of Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar outside the capital yesterday released two patients who had been confined for days due to their inability to pay bills.
Raj Banu, 60, wife of Motiur Rahman of Singair in Manijganj, was admitted to the hospital on October 16 after being hit by an auto-rickshaw in the district.
Rickshaw-puller Md Alauddin alias Alok, 27, of Narail, was rushed there following a road accident in the district on September 24.
Hospital sources said the two had been detained even after being cured.
Idris Ali, uncle of Alok, said the hospital charged them Tk 4 lakh and they could manage to pay some money.
Raj Banu was charged Tk 2.73 lakh of which she could pay 40,000, she said.
Admitting the facts, Anwar Kadir Nazim, director of the private hospital, said they released them considering their inability to pay the remaining bills.
