DNCC starts evicting, auctioning construction material from roads
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has started a drive to evict construction material kept illegally on footpaths and roads, creating obstacles to pedestrian movement.
DNCC officials were seen in a Facebook live post seizing the construction material and auctioning those immediately.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam started the drive at Road-86 in the city's Gulshan area around 10:00am as per earlier announcement.
In the live video, the DNCC mayor was seen present during the drive and the officials were seizing the construction material on the footpaths and roads and selling those at auction.
"We earlier warned city dwellers not to keep any construction material on footpath but they did not pay any heed. This is why we are now conducting this drive at all 10 zones simultaneously", said the mayor.
He said that roads and footpaths are being damaged due to the bricks, sand, rods kept there illegally.
"Today, I have told all officials of the city if they find anything on the footpaths and roads, they will auction those immediately as per law," he said.
"I am warning that from today, DNCC will conduct an eviction drive once every week," he said.
