Today is the 44th death anniversary of two Liberation War martyrs, Dr Azharul Haque and Dr Humayun Kabir.

Azhar, an assistant surgeon and Humayun, an intern physician at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, were brutally killed on this day by Al-Badr for secretly providing treatment to many wounded freedom fighters.

Al-Badr took the doctors from their Hatirpool residence and murdered them after inhuman torture. Their bodies were recovered from a ditch near Notre Dame College the next day.

On the occasion, a Qurankhwani and a doa mahfil will be held at Azimpur old graveyard in the capital after Asr prayers, says a press release.
