CU probing culpability allegations against teachers
The Chittagong University authorities have formed a committee to investigate allegations that three teachers were responsible for the recent death of a female student.
The one-member committee led by Prof AS Imam Ali of sociology will submit the report next week, the professor said.
Promithi Rahman, a master's student of international relations, reportedly died of a cardiac arrest in her house in Dhaka on September 25.
A month later, on October 25, her mother Alam Ara Begum complained to the vice chancellor that Promithi was suffering from stomach diseases which were caused by mental stress.
The letter said the three teachers put her under serious mental pressure and harassed her over attendance in classes, exams and residency in the hall.
This sent her into depression, and eventually caused her death, it added.
