A Chittagong court on Monday stayed the remand of businessman Nur Mohammad in a case over the seizure of liquid cocaine at Chittagong Port in May last year.

The cocaine was found in a container, purportedly carrying sunflower oil.

Nur Mohammad is chairman of Khatunganj based firm Khan Jahan Ali Ltd, and the container was sent to his firm from Bolivia.

Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahe Nur passed the order after the defence sought a revision of the remand order passed by another court, said prosecutor Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rahamat Ali granted a three-day remand of Nur on Sunday.

The court also fixed January 20 for holding a hearing on legality of the remand order, said the prosecutor.

On May 8 last year, a container carrying 107 barrels of sunflower oil arrived at Chittagong port from Bolivia via Uruguay but later liquid cocaine was found in some barrels.
