Court accepts charges against Fakhrul, Moudud

A Dhaka court yesterday took cognizance of the charges against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Moudud Ahmed and 34 other party men for hurling crude bombs at policemen in March 2013.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court gave the order and fixed March 3 for hearing on charge framing.

BNP leaders Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Mirza Abbas, Abdullah Al Noman, Amanullah Aman, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annee, Habibunnabi Khan Sohel, Barkatullah Bulu and Sultan Salauddin Tuku are among others.

Of the accused, Fakhrul, Moudud, Goyeshwar, Noman, Aman and 25 others are now on bail while Abbas and Annee are in jail. Four others have been absconding.

Mohammad Enamul Haque, an inspector of Detective Branch of police and also the investigation officer in the case, submitted two charge sheets to the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka on May 11 last year.

According to the case statement, Fakhrul, Moudud and 24 others along with 1,000 to 1,200 activists brought out a protest procession in front of Twin Tower in the capital's Shantinagar on March 2, 2013.

At one stage, they hurled five crude bombs at policemen and damaged several vehicles, leaving several law enforcers seriously injured.
