Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) today imposed restrictions at all entry and exit points to prevent anyone entering or leaving the port city until further notice in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The restriction will come into effect from Sunday evening, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relation) Abu Bakar Siddique of CMP.

"Surveillance at the existing check-posts at five entry points of the city have been ramped up so that no one can enter or leave the city unless in the case of emergency," ADC Abu Bakar told The Daily Star.

"The restriction will remain in effect until further notice and legal action will be taken against those who violate the directive," he also said, adding that emergency services including food, medicines and others will remain out of the purview of the restriction.

"Similar directives were given to all superintendents of police in 11 districts under the range to tighten surveillance to check movement of people from one district to another," Chattogram Range's Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khandokar Golam Faruk told The Daily Star.

"We will not allow anyone passage from one district to another in order to prevent Covid-19 transmission and security has been beefed up at all check-posts ahead of Eid-ul-fitr," DIG Golam Faruk added.
