A Dhaka court yesterday for the ninth time gave Criminal Investigation Department (CID) more time, this time over three months, for investigations in the case over Maj Gen Abul Manzur's killing in 1981.

Judge SM Saiful Islam of the First Addition District and Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka fixed February 25, 2016 for submission of the probe report following a petition submitted by the investigation officer, CID Special Superintendent Abdul Kahar Akond.

The main accused in the charge sheet is the then chief of army staff HM Ershad, now Jatiya Party chief and special adviser to the prime minster, who is being represented by Advocate Sheikh Muhammad Serajul Islam.

Ershad was earlier exempted from appearing in court. Two others accused -- Maj (retd) Kazi Emdadul Haque and Lt Col (retd) Mostafa Kamaluddin Bhuiyan -- were present yesterday.

Manzur, the commander of sector-8 during the Liberation War, was killed in Chittagong Cantonment on June 1, 1981 two days after the assassination of the then president Ziaur Rahman.

His elder brother Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the case on February 28, 1995.
