Celebrities join DSCC cleaning campaign

Journalists, TV artists and Nishath Mazumder, the first Bangladeshi woman who scaled Mount Everest, joined a cleaning campaign of Dhaka South City Corporation near Bangabazar intersection yesterday.

They took part in the token cleaning drive with the DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon as part of the campaign.

"We all are neat and clean, environment friendly and want a livable city but we do not work to make the city livable and every citizen should help the city corporation to clean the city," Nishat told the programme, organised by City Development Journalist Forum Bangladesh.

"If we clean our homes and the adjoining areas, gradually the city will be clean," said Nishath.

Actor Arfan Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.

"… it is our duty to keep the city clean," said another TV actress and model Mounita Khan Ishana.

 Every city dweller should play the role of mayor in make the capital a livable and healthy place, said mayor Khokon.

Only a mayor or some other officials cannot make the city livable, he said.

Khokon added he would take care of the city streets and wash away dusts.

He also urged every citizen to take part in a symbolic cleaning campaign scheduled for February 14.

President of CDJFB Omar Faruk and secretary Amitosh Paul also participated in the campaign.
