The indigenous people of Sylhet division are increasingly migrating out of Bangladesh, into India, in the face of land grabbing and injustice, speakers told a workshop yesterday.

To stop the migration, the government should recognise these minority communities as indigenous people and establish their economic, social, and land rights, they said.

The two-day "Regional Training on ILO Convention 107, 169, 111 and Basic Human Rights" kicked in Sylhet city yesterday, aiming to edify youth indigenous leaders on their communities' rights.

Kapaeeng Foundation and Patra Sampraday Kalyan Parishad organised the workshop with support from the ILO. At least 33 indigenous communities live in Sylhet region.
