Boy’s fatal brush with rowdies
A 12-year-old boy was found hanging from the beam of a tin-roofed house by his desperate mother who had run out to seek help from the landlord a few doors down as a mob of rowdy youths had been beating her son mercilessly, in Courtbari of Savar Monday night.
The deceased was Sagor Hosen, son of Nazrul Islam, a day labourer hailed from Pabna.
Sagor's mother Tara Banu told The Daily Star that three local youths -- Alomgir, Rassel and Jhontu of the area -- with some of their friends brought her son to her home and started beating him up over an allegation that Sagor was sniffing glue outside.
While she tried to resist them they also beat her up, she added. Tara Banu alleged that the youths killed her son and hanged his body with a rope when she rushed to her landlord to save her son from them.
Locals, watching the incident, alleged that the youths were thugs in the area so they could not resist them. However, none admitted to seeing them killing the boy.
On information, police went to Savar Upazila Health Complex where Sagor's body was taken with several injury marks in the neck and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
