Boy rescued from trafficking, two held

Rab members rescued a five-year-old boy who was being trafficked to India by a boat on the Teesta in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari Thursday evening.

They rescued the boy two days after he was abducted from Gazipur, and also arrested two abductors.

The arrestees are Zahidul Islam Zahid, 25, hailing from Panchagarh, and Sokhina Begum, 50, of Dimla.

They abducted Riad, 5, son of Abu Bakkar Siddique, in Gazipur on August 11, said Commander Md Akramul Hossen of Rab-13.  

The abductors contacted Riad's father and demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh. The father informed Rab of the matter, said the commander.

The two confessed to Rab that they were taking the boy to India, according to a press release of Rab.

Md Akramul Hossen said the two were part of a gang of traffickers.
