Panic gripped patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following a power disruption for hours in its newly constructed 10-storey building.

DMCH Assistant Director Khaza Abdul Gafur said, "Power was snapped during repair works in the power supply line."

No major untoward incident took place during this period, he added.

Electricity supply was snapped around 11:00am after a sudden spark in the supply line in the pathology department on the building's first floor.

Later, all the floors experienced blackout during the repair works, DMCH sources said.

Meanwhile, the power generators also failed to provide services around 3:00pm and all the lifts remained out of order until 3:50pm. Preparation of pathological test reports was disrupted and some indoor services faced problems. Electricity supply resumed at 7:00pm.
