Awami League govt media friendly: Inu

Terming the present Awami League government "mass media and journalist friendly", Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu yesterday told parliament that print and electronic media were now publishing news "without any kind of government interference."

"Print and electronic media are now enjoying freedom …," he said while replying to lawmakers' queries.

Inu said the present government totally believed in the "freedom of media" as the constitution guaranteed it.

He also said the government had given registration and licences to 716 newspapers, 31 TV channels, 24 FM radio stations and 32 community radio stations in the last seven years to ensure the free flow of information.

In another reply, Inu said the government had undertaken various programmes for promotion of creativity and production of quality films to restore the past glory of the film industry.
