Appoint 231 deprived candidates: HC
The High Court yesterday directed the government to appoint 231 deprived candidates, who were selected in 2012 through exams for the post of assistant teacher at primary schools in different upazilas of Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogra, Natore, Chapai Nawabganj, Jessore, Tangail, Joypurhat and Jhenaidah, in four weeks.
The deprived candidates collectively filed a writ petition in December last.
According to a circular of the primary and mass education ministry in April 2010, recruitments were supposed to be made from upazila-based panels of selected candidates.
But as per the primary and mass education board's decision of 2012, around 14,000 candidates were appointed from union-based panels of selected candidates at different times. As a result, the writ petitioners got dropped from recruitment lists, their lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub said.
The SC on May 7 upheld a HC verdict which on last June 18 declared illegal a government decision to recruit primary school teachers from union-based panels of selected candidates.
