Apex court extends status quo on Jamuna Resort

The Supreme Court yesterday extended its chamber judge's order till May 17 that issued a status quo on April 26 on the possession of Jamuna Resort.

The resort on the south bank of the river Jamuna in Tangail will remain under the possession of Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) following the SC order, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star.

He said BBA had already took the possession of the resort through canceling a 30-year lease with Jamuna Resort Ltd, a consortium of Bangladeshi and foreign companies.

The SC passed the order during hearing a petition filed by the BBA against a High Court order in this regard.

The SC also asked the BBA to submit a leave to appeal petition against the HC order to SC by May 17.

Following a petition, the HC on April 23 allowed JRL to run its lawful business at the resort for next three months.

It also stayed a Dhaka court order that upheld the BBA notice that on April 1 canceled the 30-year lease of the resort with JRL.
