Allegation of theft outrightly false

Victim's mother tells Sylhet court; three other witnesses also testify

A Sylhet court yesterday recorded the testimonies of four witnesses in a case filed for killing 13-year-old Rajon.

The witnesses are the victim's mother Lubna Akther, Sheikh Md Al Amin, Ziaul Haque and Masuk Miah, said Public Prosecutor Mafur Ali.

Ten of the 13 charge sheeted accused were produced before the court which will record the testimonies of all the 38 witnesses within October 15.

Earlier, the court fixed October 1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 to record their depositions.

Lubna told the court that the allegation of stealing a rickshaw-van against her son was completely false.

Al Amin, Ziaul and Masuk, in their statements, said they saw Rajon being taken by a vehicle after an assault and on the way they caught them and handed them over to police, said Mafur.

Rajon died of brain haemorrhage after a group of brutes beat him up in Kumargaon Bus Stand area in Sylhet on July 8 apparently to punish him for stealing. The body bore as many as 64 injury marks, according to the autopsy report.
