Bangladesh Adibashi Union yesterday demanded sufficient budget allocations for economic development, industrialisation, and agricultural advancement in both the plain lands and hilly regions populated by indigenous people.

Holding a rally on Dhaka University campus, it also demanded constitutional rights and punishment for those who killed, raped, and persecuted Adivasis.

The Union leaders said most of the 50 lakh people from more than 45 indigenous communities living in Bangladesh were poor and deprived of education and healthcare.

Leftist leaders Manzurul Ahsan Khan, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Awami League's Chhabi Biswas, economist Prof MM Akash, and President of Adibashi Union Khogendra Hajong addressed the rally.
