Samar Krishna Chowdhury, assistant to a lawyer in Chattogram city, has filed a case accusing eight policemen -- including former Boalkhali Police Station officer-in-charge Himangshu Das Rana -- and three others on charge of implicating him in two "false" cases and threatening to kill him in "shootout" in 2018.

Samar filed the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman today, our staff correspondent reports from Chattogram.

Accepting the case, the court ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report after investigating the case, said plaintiff's lawyer Advocate Jewel Das.

In collusion with Samar's rivals, police picked him up on May 27, 2018 from Chattogram Court Building area, tortured him and implicated him in two "false" cases, his family members alleged.

Police later produced Samar before a Chattogram court, showing him arrested in two cases over recovery of yaba pills and firearm. The court sent him to jail.

The then OC Himangshu Das was withdrawn from Boalkhali Police Station to Chattogram District Police Line after the incident drew flak from public.

Talking to The Daily Star, Samar Krishna on July 20, 2018 said two sub-inspectors with consent from the then OC of Boalkhali Police Station, tried to kill him in "shootout".
