21 doping gang members jailed
Twenty-one people belonging to gangs that dope people and then rob them were sentenced to different terms in jail after being arrested in different places of the capital in the last two days.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested them in Jatrabari, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, and the High Court area. The sentences range from six months to two years, said DB Deputy Commissioner (South) Sajjadur Rahman, who directed the raids.
Executive Magistrate Md Moshiur Rahman sentenced the arrestees, he told a press briefing at the DMP media centre yesterday.
Detectives also recovered strong sedatives -- Dormicum, Milam and Ativan -- from the arrestees.
These gangs dope people at bus stands, rail stations and other crowded public places by giving them food mixed with sedatives ahead of Ramadan and Eid, said Sajjadur Rahman.
Over the last few days, around 50 victims were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said hospital sources.
