2 killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Tejgaon

Two suspected robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Tejgaon area of Dhaka early today.

The deceased were identified as Jamal, 38, and Naim, 35, members of an inter-district vehicle snatching gang, said Mohiuddin Faruque, a company commander of Rab-2.

The duo was accused in at least 10 cases filed over snatching and stealing vehicles in the capital and its adjacent areas, he said.

A team of the Rab-2 members acting on a tip-off set up a checkpoint in Tejgaon area around 4:00am, he said.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the suspected robbers opened fire. In retaliation, the Rab members also fired back, triggering a “gunfight” between them, the Rab official said.

After the “gunfight”, Jamal and Naim were found bullet-hit and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead, Rab official Mohiuddin added.

The elite force seized a pistol, two sharp weapons and several bullets from the scene.
