Police and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) yesterday seized 160 unregistered CNG-auto rickshaws in Chittagong city.

In the joint drive, owners of 150 such registered vehicles were also given penalty tickets for operating them without meters, informed Chittagong Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Traffic-North) Masud ul Hasan.

In some cases, the relevant documents are also seized, CMP traffic sources said.

With the penalty tickets, they are to appear before  the traffic department of CMP where they are convicted, they said.

The deadline for fixing the meters expired on Monday, said Masud.

Presently, 13,000 registered and 5,000 unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaws ply the city streets.

Of them, meters were fixed in 3,000 ones while 6,000 are waiting for those, the sources said.
