1 killed in port city building collapse
A security guard of a warehouse of coal was killed and one of his colleagues injured after a portion of its boundary wall fell on them, which was triggered by a building collapse adjacent to it in Chittagong city's Sagorika yesterday afternoon.
The one-storey building was being demolished, said locals. Its two workers, who were also injured, and owners Habibullah and Jamal Hossain are on the run, said AKM Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Pahartali Police Station.
Maju Miah, 60, of Noakhali, was declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
His colleague Abdus Shukur, 56, of the city's Madar Bari, was being treated at the hospital in a critical condition, said his another colleague Ali Haider.
The incident occurred while the two security guards were taking rest, said Mohammad Ali, owner of the warehouse.
Locals alleged that there was no safety measure during demolition of the building.
