Autopsy report says suicide

Bangladesh Chhatra League central assistant secretary Diaz Irfan Chowdhury committed suicide, said the autopsy report yesterday which was rejected by the family.

Diaz was found hanging in his residence near Chittagong University on Sunday.

Since the incident, the family has been claiming that Diaz, also former vice president the Chittagong University unit of BCL, was killed in a pre-planned way by his rivals following a dispute over tender of construction of the university buildings.

After his death, Diaz's followers demonstrated in Chittagong demanding arrest of those involved in the incident. They disrupted shuttle train services between the city and the university for two hours.

Rezaul Masud, additional superintendent of police at District Special Branch (DSB), told The Daily Star that they got the autopsy report prepared by a three-member committee led by the head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

The report clearly mentioned that Diaz hanged himself, he said.

He said an unnatural death case will be filed in this connection.
