Ctg constable who died yesterday was Covid-19 positive

A police personnel, who died early yesterday at Chattogram General Hospital, was Covid-19 positive, test result confirmed last night.

Mokhlesur Rahman, a constable of Chattogram District Police, was in quarantine after he exhibited Covid-19 symptoms around 10 days ago.

As his condition deteriorated at the police-arranged quarantine centre around 5:00am yesterday, he was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead, said MohiuddinSohel, additional deputy commissioner (Special Branch) of Chattogram District Police.

His sample was collected after death and the result came back last night, confirming that he was Covid-19 positive, the police official said.

Mokhlesur had other health complications too, police said.

With Mokhlesur, 10 police personnel so far died after being infected with Covid-19 while discharging duties across the country.

Hailing from Chandpur district, the constable left behind his wife, three daughters and a son.

"The police personnel has sacrificed his life after being infected with Covid-19 while discharging his duty to keep people safe," said Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (Media) of Police Headquarters.

Police headquarters and district police expressed condolence over the death.

Earlier, constables NaimulHaque, Jalal Uddin Khoka, Asheq Mahmud and Jasim Uddin; Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Raghunath Roy; ASI Abdul Khaleq; Sub-inspector (SI) SultanulArefin; SI Mujibur Rahman Talukder; and SI Nazir Uddin died with infections.
