JnU students stage demo, demand justice for July killings
Students of Jagannath University (JnU) staged a demonstration today demanding justice for all killings in July Uprising and against Awami League sabotage.
They brought out a procession at Bahadur Shah Park around noon, paraded through Rayshaheb Bazar, and then ended with a brief rally back at Bahadur Shah Park.
Foysal Murad, convener of the JnU unit of Jatiya Chhatra Sakti, said that Awami League no longer exists in the country after August 5 last year.
He said that if anyone tries to bring back Awami League, whose activities are now banned, they will be expelled from Bangladesh.
Masud Rana, central member of United Peoples (UP) Bangladesh and JnU's chief organiser, said Sheikh Hasina's chapter in Bangladesh is closed. Those who want to establish fascism again have been rejected by the people, he added.
Mehdi Hasan, secretary general of the JnU Debating Society, said, "We will not allow Awami League to return to this country."
Riyazul Islam, president of the JnU unit of Chhatra Shibir, recalled how teachers, workers, and students united during last July. He also said that if Awami League tries to carry out any activities in Old Dhaka, not only students but all residents will resist them.
Leaders of different student organisations took part in the protest organised by JnU students.
