Chittagong University (CU) has suspended all classes and examinations for a second consecutive day as persistent heavy rainfall, waterlogging and transport disruptions continue to affect the campus.

Shuttle train services also remain suspended, disrupting the movement of students and staff, while examinations of 21 departments and institutes have been postponed.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by Registrar Prof Dr Mohammad Saiful Islam at 10:00pm on Wednesday.

"As there has been no significant improvement in the weather situation and the prevailing waterlogging and transport crisis continue, the suspension of all classes and scheduled examinations of Chittagong University will remain effective on July 9, 2026 as well," the notice said.

Controller of Examinations Prof Momtaz Uddin Ahmed said examinations of 21 departments and institutes had been postponed.

"The revised schedules for the postponed examinations will be announced by the respective examination committees," he said.

Assistant Proctor Dr Kamrul Hossain said water on and around the railway tracks remained the main obstacle to resuming shuttle train services.

"For this reason, train operations have been disrupted. There is no possibility of running the shuttle today. Services may resume tomorrow if the water level recedes. However, even after the water goes down, railway authorities will inspect whether the tracks have suffered any damage before making a final decision," he said.

Earlier, the university suspended all classes and examinations on July 8 after continuous rainfall over the previous three days caused severe waterlogging and transport problems across different parts of Chattogram.
