Govt. to crack down on unregistered SIMs
The government is planning a crackdown on unregistered SIMs. While heading the second meeting of Digital Bangladesh Taskforce, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also instructed to formulate a guideline to expedite, enrich and sustain progress in ICT. This meeting of the highest authority regarding ICT development took place last week in Chameli Hall at the PM's Office.
The meeting agenda also included digital conversion in the education sector, cyber/digital security policies, setting up high-tech parks, establishing network connectivity at the Union level throughout the country, etc. Coordination between various government agencies and departments with the ICT Division was also among the issues discussed. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also instructed to reduce the cost of internet in order to make it accessible for all across the country. At present, there are 23 members in the Taskforce including the Finance Minister, Planning Minister, Posts and Telecom State Minister, Commerce Minister, Minister for Science and State Minister of ICT. The first meeting of the Taskforce was conducted in August 2010. Important issues such as setting up a separate ICT Ministry, reducing the cost of bandwidth, establishing a software technology park and developing multimedia classrooms for schools were discussed on that occasion.
