BSCCL declares 2nd submarine cable connectivity

By Star Online Report

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL) today officially declared its connectivity with the country's second undersea cable.

The second submarine connectivity was officially launched in a meeting of SEA-ME-WE 5 management body in Istanbul today, Md Abdus Salam Khan, acting managing director of BSCCL, told The Daily Star.

"However it will take some more days to get its service to us as backhaul link from Kuakata to Dhaka is not ready yet," he said.

State owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company (BTCL), which is establishing the connectivity, said it will take some time to establish the inland backhaul connectivity.

Initially, this cable will provide 200 Gbps of bandwidth, which can ultimately go up to 1,500 Gbps, said Parvez M Ashraf, project director of the second submarine cable landing station.

The country currently receives 200 Gbps of bandwidth from its first connection -- SEA-ME-WE 4, which was connected in 2016.
