Bank Asia hands over solar irrigation project to Bogura farmers
Bank Asia PLC has handed over a modern two-tier solar-powered irrigation project to farmers in Bogura, aiming to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for agriculture while supporting marginal farmers.
Implemented with technical support from the Rural Development Academy (RDA) in Bogura, the project is designed to improve irrigation facilities and promote environmentally sustainable farming, according to a press release. Md Abdul Majid Pramanik, director general (in-charge) of RDA, attended the handover ceremony as the chief guest and formally transferred the project to the local farmers’ association.
The solar-powered system can extract and supply 50,000 litres of water per hour, helping farmers irrigate their crops more efficiently while also providing clean water for household use. The project is expected to boost agricultural productivity, reduce irrigation costs and encourage sustainable farming practices in the area, the release added.
Tahmidur Rashid, senior executive vice-president of the bank, attended the programme as the special guest, while Ferdous Khan, director of RDA, presided over the event. Bank Asia PLC had earlier handed over a similar solar-powered irrigation project to a farmers’ association in Rangpur in November 2025.
With the Bogura initiative, the bank continues to expand its support for sustainable agriculture and rural development through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
The project reflects the bank’s commitment to improving farmers’ livelihoods, strengthening climate-friendly agricultural practices and contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
Members of the farmers’ association and other distinguished guests were also present at the event.
